New House on the Prairie

My daughter's kindergarten teacher is one of sweetest people I've ever met. After years of renting through college and going through the process of a fixer upper, they bought their forever home close by her school.  They moved mid school year and with busy lives and busy jobs, hadn't had time to really invest in making it FEEL like home.  By making subtle changes to the furniture layout, purchasing some new frames and enlarging her favorite family photos, we were able to pull together a living space that is cozy, personality packed, and perfect for this family of four.

In this reno, my clients took their 1980's home down to the studs and rebuilt a beautiful PNW style family home. This remodel was designed around entertaining;  adding a well appointed Mother in Law suite for Grandma to be close to family yet still have her freedom and having plenty of space for their growing boys to return home someday with families of their own to visit. (Look closely, to the right of the fireplace is a Narnia-esque hidden door inside the bookshelf to gain access to the MIL suite! Seriously, how cool is that?)

Added touches include a reclaimed wood wall that was built out of barn wood taken from property that has been in the family for decades, bringing in personality to the space with a story behind it.  Oh how I LOVE a good story in a home!

Black & White: Kitchen Renovation

What a huge difference color can make! In lieu of new cabinets, we hired a professional to paint the existing cabinetry. We choose white quartz countertops to keep the overall feel light and bright, added a large granite composite sink, and installed a fresh backsplash and said BUH BYE to the old beige and boring tile. While we wanted a crisp white backsplash, we decided against classic subway and opted for tile with a little more personality... large 8x8" white hexagon tile. Installing outlets with USB ports was especially helpful for a large family, it was an inexpensive but functional upgrade that anyone can incorporate into their existing kitchen or new kitchen design.

Sometimes life is busy and you can't get to the seasonal decorating.  A quick hour and a half, and this client got to sit back and enjoy FALL without lifting a finger.

Cottage guest house

For this styling consult, I used thrifted finds and antique treasures that the homeowner already had on hand. I styled a sweet little guest house for my clients to rent on Airbnb with a gallery wall of funky art, a little warmth in greenery, and a few games and books here and there for guests to use. Simple touches that make guests feel right at home.

staged for sale: Burnett farmhouse

Staging is always fun when the homeowner has a personality packed space! This farmhouse sold, and they have since built a beautiful new home on property that suits their needs.

dreamy with a touch of glam:

a room for a little pink lover

In a kids space, I have one rule.  Let them be a kid.  They're only kids once... their rooms should be fun, functional, and entirely representing them! In an insta perfect world, I would strongly urge a client to not make their kids' room a show room.  Make it fun.  Make it interesting for them.  Let them be creative and learn new things and read adventure books in the middle of a space that is their very own.

Moody Master | Personalize your nightstand

There's nothing like hanging a small gallery of your favorite things above your nightstand to bring some personality into the master bedroom! Black rooms are not for the faint of heart, but if you love dark and moody spaces you may just love a black bedroom.
